HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU WASH YOUR DOG?
There are several steps you can take to make washing your dog an enjoyable experience for them:
-
Start by getting your dog used to being handled and touched all over their body. This will help them to feel more relaxed and comfortable during the bathing process.
-
Avoid getting water and shampoo/conditioner in your dogs eyes, nose, and ears.
-
Begin by wetting your dog with warm water utilising the 'rinse' setting, gradually get them wet all over.
-
Next select the shampoo setting, and in a similar fashion gradually wet them all over, working the shampoo into their coat.
-
Rinse the shampoo out, and repeat the process for the conditioner and flea and tick.
-
Use a soothing tone of voice and provide plenty of praise and treats throughout the process to help them associate bathing with positive experiences.
-
Once you have finished washing your dog, be sure to rinse them thoroughly to remove all soap and shampoo, and then dry them off with a towel or the blow dryer.
-
After the bath, reward your dog with treats, pets and cuddles
-
Remove your dog from the wash tub and rinse down with the 'disinfectant' setting so it is ready to use for the next person.
-
Provide a positive reinforcement for good behaviour during the bath, make it a play time, fun and enjoyable for both of you.
By following these steps and making the experience a positive one, you will help your dog look forward to bath time rather than dread it. Remember that it is important to keep the entire experience positive to help build trust between you and your dog.
